Medicinal Bone Broth for Allergies

April 04, 2024

Spring is blooming, and with the joy of outdoor activities, many find themselves grappling with seasonal allergies. The sneezing, the itchy eyes, and the overall discomfort can put a damper on the most vibrant of days. But fear not, for we have a delicious solution that not only nourishes the body but also provides a natural shield against those pesky allergens: herbal infused bone broth for allergies.

In this bustling modern world, it's easy to overlook the healing power of traditional remedies. Bone broth, simmered low and slow to extract every last bit of goodness from the bones, has long been revered for its myriad health benefits. Rich in collagen, minerals, and amino acids, bone broth is a powerhouse of nutrition, supporting gut health, joint function, and even promoting glowing skin.

But what sets this bone broth apart is the infusion of hand-selected herbs, each chosen for its unique ability to combat allergies and boost immunity. We harness the potent properties of herbs like astragalus, renowned for its immune-boosting effects, and reishi mushroom and turmeric, celebrated for their anti-inflammatory properties and ability to clear mucus, while dandelion root lends its liver supporting qualities.

Herbal Infused Medicinal Bone Broth for Allergies Recipe

Ingredients

- 2-3 pounds of grass-fed beef or pasture-raised chicken bones
- 1 onion, roughly chopped
- 2 carrots, roughly chopped
- 2 celery stalks, roughly chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic, smashed
- 1-3 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (a good splash)
- 1 tablespoon of dried astragalus root
- 1 tablespoon of dried reishi mushroom slices
- 2 tsp of turmeric powder or whole slices
- 1 tablespoon of dried dandelion root
- 1 teaspoon of sea salt
- 1 teaspoon of whole black peppercorns
- Water, enough to cover the bones

Instructions

1. Prepare the Bones

If using beef bones, roast them in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 30 minutes until they are browned and caramelized. If using pre-cooked chicken bones, you can skip this step.

2. Simmer the Broth

  • Place the bones in a large stockpot or slow cooker. Add in the chopped onion, carrots, celery, and smashed garlic cloves.
  • Pour in enough water to cover the bones and vegetables. Add the apple cider vinegar, which helps to draw out the nutrients from the bones.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a gentle simmer. Skim off any foam that rises to the surface.
  • Add in the dried astragalus root, reishi mushroom slices, turmeric, black pepper, and dandelion root.
  • Let the broth simmer uncovered for at least 8 hours, or up to 24 hours for maximum flavor and nutrient extraction. Keep an eye on the water level and add more if needed to keep the bones covered.

3. Season and Strain

  • After simmering, season the broth with sea salt to taste.
  • Carefully strain the broth through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean container, discarding the solids.

4. Storage and Serving

  • Let the broth cool to room temperature before transferring it to jars or containers for storage.
  • Store the broth in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or freeze it for longer-term storage.
  • Reheat the broth as needed and enjoy it as a nourishing beverage or use it as a base for soups, stews, and sauces.

This herbal infused medicinal bone broth is not only delicious but also packed with immune-boosting and allergy-fighting properties. Sip it daily during allergy season to soothe inflammation, support your immune system, and nourish your body from the inside out.
