Digestive discomfort is incredibly common. Gas, bloating, heartburn, constipation, stress-tummies… most of us experience at least one of these on a regular basis. While food choices, stress, and daily habits all influence digestion, herbs have a unique way of gently guiding the digestive system back toward balance.
One of my favourite ways to work with herbs for digestion? Tea.
Herbal teas are gentle, fast-acting, and deeply soothing. The warmth itself encourages circulation and relaxation in the digestive tract, while the herbs meet the body exactly where support is needed. For many people, tea can feel more comforting and effective than capsules or tinctures, which makes it a good choice for sensitive tummies.
Below, we’ll explore common digestive patterns, the herbs traditionally used to support them, and why they work, followed by a few Apotheka blends to make things simple.
When the digestive tract feels tight, clenched, or “grippy,” we turn to antispasmodic herbs. These herbs help relax smooth muscle, ease tension, and calm irritation, often bringing relief fairly quickly.
Herbal allies often used in tea for digestion include:
Helpful for: stress-triggered cramps, IBS-type discomfort, upper-belly tightness, period-related digestive pain
Gas is normal, but frequent or uncomfortable bloating often points to sluggish digestion, food lingering too long, or tension in the gut.
Carminative herbs help move things along, reduce gas buildup, and ease that heavy, full feeling.
Herbal allies commonly used in digestive teas include:
Helpful for: post-meal bloating, slow digestion, uncomfortable fullness, “air bubble” sensations

Constipation can arise from dryness, stress, sluggish movement, or lack of digestive flow. Rather than forcing things, herbs work by moistening, softening, and encouraging natural movement.
Herbal allies:
Helpful for: dry or hard stools, sluggish digestion, stress-related constipation
When digestion is moving too quickly or feels irritated, we reach for herbs that soothe, tone, and protect the gut lining.
Herbal allies often enjoyed in digestive teas include:
Helpful for: loose stools, sensitive digestion, post-infection recovery, inflammatory patterns
Heartburn isn’t always about “too much acid.” Often, stress, irritation, or inefficient digestion plays a role. These herbs focus on soothing the lining and supporting digestive balance rather than suppressing natural processes.
Herbal allies used in digestive tea blends include:
Helpful for: burning sensations, reflux after meals, stress-related digestive discomfort

A gentle, comforting blend designed to calm irritation, support sensitive digestion, and nourish the gut lining.
Lovely for heartburn, loose stools, or delicate digestive systems.
When the nervous system is overwhelmed, digestion often follows. This blend supports relaxation so digestion can happen more naturally.
Great for anxiety stomach, tension bloating, and stress-related nausea.
A warming, aromatic blend that eases gas, relaxes tension, and supports comfortable digestion after meals.
Ideal for bloating, cramping, and post-meal discomfort.
Digestive patterns are rarely one-size-fits-all and many people experience more than one issue at a time.
